Tiger Woods: Also playing The PLAYERS Championship

In 2007 Tiger Woods won the Wachovia Championship now known as the Wells Fargo Championship. Organizers are waiting to see if he will return for next week's event

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, who have helped PGA Tour events this season attract huge crowds and substantial ratings bumps with strong performances near the twilight of their careers, committed to The Players Championship on Thursday.

The American is set to join fellow stars such as Rory McIlroy in competing at Quail Hollow and then TPC Sawgrass at the beginning of May.

Golf Central reported Thursday afternoon that Woods will be making his next start a week from today at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Woods last won The PLAYERS in 2013, which was the previous year he managed to take first in any tournament. He's also now No. 12 in strokes gained overall on the entire PGA Tour. Woods has won the event once previously, in 2007, but has not played in it since 2012.

After a somewhat disappointing Masters performance (1-over, T-32), Woods said he'll put the clubs away for a while after a grueling schedule building up to Augusta. I pushed myself pretty hard to get ready.

Woods' late spring and summer will likely include the Wells Fargo, The Players, the Memorial, the U.S. Open, the National and the Open with maybe a few changes here or there. Woods hasn't played more than 11 tournaments since 2013 which would make 2018 quite historic.
