Darvish yielded just three hits against the Brewers with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Yu Darvish avoided the fifth-inning blues on a cool Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field, leaving the mound to chants of "Yuuuu" after throwing six strong innings against Milwaukee.

Darvish got his second big league double and fifth hit with a drive into the right-field corner in the fifth inning against Brent Suter. A good litmus test will come Saturday when Guerra squares off against the Cubs in Chicago.

Darvish fell behind right at the start after Lorenzo Cain reached second as Heyward dropped his leadoff fly to right.

After Ryan Braun stepped in at first base for the Brewers for injured starter Eric Thames, manager Craig Counsell said Braun and Jesus Aguilar will split time at the position. Darvish left with the Cubs ahead 2-1, but Christian Yelich hit a seventh-inning sacrifice fly off Brian Duensing.

With the game tied at 2, Addison Russell greeted Dan Jennings (2-1) with a single starting the bottom of the seventh.

Suter allowed two runs and five hits in five innings.

Pirates 6, Cardinals 5, 11 innings: Starling Marte's game-ending single in the 11th inning lifted the Pittsburgh Pirates to a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Pittsburgh.

Tyler Chatwood will toe the rubber for the Cubbies in this one and he has gone 1-3 with a 3.74 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP in four starts on the year, including 0-2 with a 6.52 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP in two starts here at home.

Bryant hasn't played since he was hit in the face with a 96 miles per hour fastball from the Rockies' German Marquez on Sunday. Quintana, meanwhile, hasn't been sharp but did strike out six in a six-inning shutout against the Brewers three starts ago.

RAYS 4, RED SOX 3 Blake Snell worked into the eighth inning and struck out nine, and visiting Tampa Bay held off Boston for its seventh consecutive victory. The Cubs have been a solid offensive team this year, but the Brewers have an ERA of just 1.53 over their last 10 games. The injury happened in Tuesday's Brewers-Royals game in Kansas City.
